Where does the training include after an officer is shot and their ability to carry on or not, self-aid and others respond on the team in this same area? As I see it today, that’s the gap in training and as the statistics show, most officers will survive and could have a greater impact to the success of the response if their trained in advance to "fight thru" the injury/gun shots if physically able.
I agree training should teach officers to "fight through" when possible. I also think most agencies are doing this. I haven't seen anywhere tell their officers to "die" when they are shot. Quite the opposite, they tell them to keep going and in at least some cases have them address their injuries after the threat is stopped (like putting a tourniquet on). There are also some tools that can be used to enhance the realism of this type of training. If you are using a shock belt system - it can be set to give you periodic jolts after being hit. Or the AUFIRE system can painfully immobilize your limbs and force you to work around the injury.
Hello - Do you have a list of US Active Shooter Events where LE was engaged upon arrival by the shooter (i.e., Nashville, Sikh Temple of Wisconsin, etc.)? - Thanks for the updated article, very informative.
